As staff return from Spring Break, we know there are many questions out there about Distance Learning and the Home Learning Program. If you are or have a student in one of these programs, the courses will be continuing as normal with a bit of a modified format. For example, HLP Club Class will no longer be functioning in it's current form. Please note that the ConnectEd buildings are no longer open to the public and processes will be set up in order to facilitate work drop-off, etc.
This week, our staff are working on connecting with our full-time ConnectEd students. Students and families can expect a phone call from a staff member by the end of the week. If you are cross-enrolled to ConnectEd, you can expect to be hearing from your home school by the end of the week. We want to ensure we are doing a good job of reaching out to families and, with the backlog from Spring Break, marking may be delayed as our teachers prioritize reaching out to families.
I have been fielding many questions about enrolling in DL or HLP programs. In order to ensure there is no inequity, the Ministry of Education has suspended any new DL or HLP registrations. This is so that home schools have a chance to connect with their families in a time when it matters most.
We recognize that there may be stress related to course completion and final grading. We ask everyone to be patient as staff return to work in a "new normal" and we work our way through a variety of logistics this week. We will be in contact with our families and we are committed to supporting all of our students.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call me at the school at 250-770-7718, ext 6419 or by emailing jwingham@summer.com
Stay safe and let's take care of each other out there.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Wingham
